Christmas Travel Trends: Surf Beats Snow in 2012

Have you spent the past six twelve months dreaming of a white Christmas? If you’re like 72% of travelers who planned their December vacations on FlipKey, then chances are that you’re imagining white-sand beaches and colorful bathing suits, not frosted pine trees and ugly sweaters. While chilly northern cities like New York, Paris, and Breckenridge stand out as top destinations this season, most travelers are heading to the tropics for the holidays.

Among the top 100 holiday destinations 72% of travelers head to hot spots like St Martin, while only 285 head to cold weather climes.  Looks like only a minority of travelers truly dream of a white Christmas.

More than half of Christmas reservation reqeusts are for parties of six or more. World wide 45% of travelers reserve vacation stays of 6 - 7 nights while 16% stay 8 - 10 nights and 13% stay 11- 14 night and only the lucky 1% stay more than 14 nights.
