Eco tourism in St Martin1/13/2014 Les Fruits de Mer Announce Wild Events for 2014Grand Case, St. Martin, January 12, 2014 - The Les Fruits de Mer Association unveiled an impressive slate of public events for this year at its first annual General Assembly on Tuesday, January 7th. The schedule includes four major free Wildlife Discovery Events Les Fruits de Mer will be producing in 2014: SnorkelFest on January 25th, the Endemic Animal Festival on April 26th, the Migratory Bird Festival on October 11th, and Birds & Bugs 2014 on December 6th. The Association also announced plans to host a booth at the weekly Mardis de Grand Case street fairs on Tuesday evenings in Grand Case. “It’s a great opportunity to create an unexpected space where people can engage with the island’s natural heritage in a fun new way every week,” said Les Fruits de Mer President Jenn Yerkes, “We’re excited to give residents and tourists the chance to learn something about local wildlife in a totally unique context!’” A variety of additional events for members were announced as well. The Association also outlined plans to expand its education programs on both sides of the island, and discussed upcoming publication projects, including the in-progress French edition of The Incomplete Guide to the Wildlife of Saint Martin and a guide to the wildlife of St. Eustatius, which is currently in the planning stages. The proposed program for 2014 was approved in a unanimous vote by the members in attendance. Les Fruits de Mer’s next free public Wildlife Discovery Event, SnorkelFest, will be held on Pinel Island on January 25th and will feature snorkeling, marine life education and other activities for people of all ages. The Association is currently seeking sponsorship for event materials including art supplies, t-shirts, and drinking water, as well as additional volunteers to help out at the event.
