On New Year's eve, Orient Beach features one of the biggest fireworks displays in the Caribbean. Check out this Youtube video. Guest can enjoy a fabulous beach front (under cover) dinner party at Wakiki Beach Bar for $200 Euros per person (food included/ drinks extra) starting at 8 PM. Reservations required. If I were staying near Orient, I would check out L'Astrolabe or Cafe Plantation for fine dining and perhaps music.
If I were staying near Grand Case, I would look into one of the many fine dining restaurants along the blvd. Use this link to see a Trip Advisor listing.
With live music being the unknown..depending on where you might be staying on the French side you might consider: (Be sure to check to find out if they are doing a special menu).
Last year, they had a great fireworks display on New Years Day over Fort Louis in Marigot...not on New Years Eve-- I suggest checking the local newspapers for New Years Eve events. There will be much going on in Simpson Bay and Maho. To find out what's on during your stay, get the Thursday edition of The Daily Herald, which runs an "Out and About" section and lists of upcoming events.
Each New Year's Eve residents and visitors alike flock to Philipsburg -- the capital of St. Maarten -- to view a massive fireworks display over Great Bay. Get there early to claim a spot on the boardwalk, a.k.a. The Great Bay Beach Promenade. The fireworks start at midnight, but allow time to stroll the streets of the town first, grab some festive swag, duff a cold Heineken, and indulge in some of the great restaurants before the show begins at midnight!
