Anti Hacking Packing

I read a recent article by Sid Kircheimer the author of Scam-Proof Your Life...published by AARP Books/Sterling, that I thought was very useful for travelers. It offered tips on what to do when traveling.
1)
Alert your credit card providers...let them know when, where and how long you'll be traveling. Avoids bogus charges and reduces risk your card will be frozen due to unusual activity.
2)
Weed out your wallet...take only essential idnetifiers, drivers license and just two credit cards...one to carry and another to be locked in your hotel or villa safe.
Check to see if you have a credit card that does not charge an extra fee for foreign charges.
3)
Leave your checkbook home... You should not need it...leave your bills and private papers home too.
4)
Stop your mail... for all the obvious reasons.
5) Use Safer ATMs...Debit cards are best left at home, but if you do need withdrawals, ATMs in bank lobbies are less vulnerable. There are many ATMs on both the Dutch and French sides of the island...avoid casino ATMs due to higher cost.
6)
Be carefull with Computers...Don't access financial data on hotel or villa computers or public WIFI networks.
7)
Buy Travel Insurance....not only does it cover trip cancellation and delay, but it can also cover loss of property due to theft. Be sure to report any loss to local authorities...yes that means a police report....
8)
Make sure your passport is valid well past your next dates of travel.
