St.Maarten Getting Ready To Reopen5/18/2020 - By Arun Jagtiani After 7 weeks of strict "lockdown" the island of Sint Maarten is getting ready to allow local businesses to start reopening. Last week the government on the Dutch Side announced a 4 week phased plan outlining dates for when different sectors of the economy can start to open their doors for business (please see below). No official announcement as yet confirming when international flights and cruise ships will be allowed to return to the island.PHASE 1 - May 11, 2020 Social: Jogging, Walking & Cycling on Monday - Friday from 6 am to 8 am & 4pm to 6 pm Economic: Construction, Renting of heavy Equipment, Restaurants (pick-up, delivery & drive-through), Day cares & Early Childhood Development, Financial Services (except Money Transfer Services), Consulting Services, Accounting Services, Landscaping Services, Seamstresses, Tailors & Shoe Repair, Horticulture Stores (pick-up/ delivery), Hardware Stores (pick-up/ delivery), Sale of Auto & Marine Parts (pick-up/ delivery), Essential ZBOs & Unions Phase 2 - May 18, 2020 Social: Non-contact sports and Beach going, Monday - Friday from 8 am - 6 pm Economic: Medical, Paramedical & Rehab Services (except dental clinics) Gov't Services (incl. ZBO's), Utilities & Telecommunication, Primary School, The Library, Food Vendors (incl. sale of provision), Money Transfer Services, Real Estate Firms, Employment Agencies, Dry Cleaners/ Laundromats (pick-up/ drop off), (School) Bus Service (at 50% capacity), Retail Stores (Hardware, Horticulture, Electronics, Books & School Supplies, Baby/ Maternity, Auto & Marine Parts) Phase 3 - June 1, 2020 Social: Contact sports as well Indoor sports & Outdoor sports. Sports facilities (gyms and stadiums etc ) may re-open during openieng hours Economic: Dental Clinics, Restaurants (dine-in), Other Retail Stores, Recreational Activities (except bars, nightclubs, and dance establishments), Community Council and NGOs (foundations, associations etc.), Laundromats (public use), Freight & Courier Services, Taxis, Ts & Gs (at 50% capacity), Car Rentals, Remaining Educational Institutes, Barber Shops, Hair and Nail Salon, Religious Services & Weddings, Marine Services Phase 4 - June 15, 2020 Social: All social activities may resume Economic: Market Vending, Bars, Nightclubs & Dance Establishments, Adult Entertainment Establishments, Massage Parlors, Manufacturers & Breweries, Festivals, Events & Conferences * Mandatory for all phases is proper social distancing measures and also the use of masks and gloves wherever possible. The phased re-opening is contingent upon the Country's ability to contain the spread of the corona virus. If there is a resurgence in the number of cases, the phased re-opening will be delayed and / or reversed.
