June SXM COVID-19 Update6/12/2020 - By St Maarten Tourist Office PRESS RELEASE JUNE 9th, 2020
Optimism has always been part of the nature of St. Martiners. The atmosphere is lighter, and the Friendly Island showed fighting spirit against Covid-19. To paraphrase F. Mitterrand; we have finally learned to “Givetime to time” ...We will never forget this very special parenthesis in our lives. Yet, wechooseto remember only the best about this experience. As we are beginning to see the end of this crisis, we share with you the latest updates. Restrictive measures are gradually relaxed to allow economic activity to restart. These measures concern both the general public and the private sector.
RETURN TO NORMAL ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ISLAND ALL TRAVEL BETWEEN THE FRENCH ISLANDS ALLOWED
Airports At Princess Juliana International Airport, regular lines are still closed. A phased reopening may be scheduled from July 1st. Only cargo flights and medical evacuations are allowed to operate.
At Grand Case airport, commercial flights between Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Barthelemy and St. Martin have resumed.
Reopening of all businesses (bars and restaurants included) All establishments and businesses are open. Yet, wearing a mask is mandatory.
On the Dutch side; All businesses are open including casinos. Only night clubs remain closed until further notice. On both sides of the island, opening hours of all businesses are not restricted.
There is free circulation on both sides of the Friendly island.
Inter-island ferry station Connections between Saint-Martin and Anguilla are suspended until further notice departing from the Ferry Station in Marigot. Connections with St. Barthelemy have resumed.
Marina Fort Louis The Captaincy welcomes the public from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Weekends and holidays. Access to the Marina remains restricted and conditioned by compliance with health safety guidelines, reservations are open - subject to conditions!
Cruise ship terminal The reception of cruise ships is prohibited. On the Dutch side cruise ships are not welcome until further notice but Yachts are allowed to sail in their waters. Refueling of cruise ships is permitted.
Boating and watersport activities are allowed since June 2 within the limit of 3 miles. Boating in Saint-Martin remains regulated: - Leisure boats and motorized vehicles registered or based in Saint-Martin can once again sail in French waters within the 3 nautical miles of the coast. - entries by sea are allowed only for compelling reasons, the strict fourteen on board remains mandatory. - during the hurricane season, ships can leave Saint-Martin to reach their shelter.
The beach band has been lifted Swimming at sea is now authorized. Nevertheless, gatherings of more than 10 persons remain prohibited.
Hospitals At the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital, the precautionary measures were lifted. Consultations are open again and the public is encouraged to resume medical follow-up. Emergencies remain mobilized to monitor cases of covid-19.
A reminder of good hygiene practices
1. Wash your hands regularly 2. Cover your mouth and nose with flexed elbow when coughing and sneezing 3. Use disposable tissues 4. Maintain a safety distance of 2 meters between individuals 5. Greet without shaking hands and avoid kissing 6. Call EMERGENCY +15 if symptoms appear (cough, fever...) and stay home. 7. Use of masks for staff and customers is mandatory in public areas 8. Sick employees MUST NOT go to work 9. The use of gloves for staff in contact with the general public is enforced 10. Detailed and frequent cleaning of premises and contact surfaces is implemented 11. Public access to businesses must be controlled and regulated.
