Zeka Virus Update

2/16/2016 - By St Martin Reservation Center

Many guests are inquiring about the Zika Virus.   As of this date we only know of 1 confirmed case of the Zika Virus on SXM, however, we’ve been told that the government is spraying the island on a routine basis  and we’ve had folks come back to say they saw very few mosquitoes during their entire stay.

Unless you have anyone who is now or is planning to become pregnant then it has not been proven dangerous at this time.

While outdoors we encourage all guests to wear mosquito repellent, and in the early mornings and at dusk when the mosquitoes are more present,  we recommend guests stay inside in  an air conditioned space...

Mosquito repellent can be purchased in any of the pharmacies located around the island. They say that the best sprays should have at least 20 percent “Picaridin” combined with "Deet".  Spray it on clothing and on skin for best protection.  The better sprays should last up to 8 hours.

During the 2016 travel season, St Martin has been at 85% + occupancy.

What is Zika virus?

Zika virus disease is a mosquito-borne illness. The most common symptoms of Zika virus disease are a mild fever, skin rashes, muscle and joint pain, and conjunctivitis. These symptoms normally last for 2-7 days. Seek medical care if symptoms worsen.
